In autumn 2021, Felicity proposed a “Sounds of Music” project to her introductory Digital Humanities class, suggesting that DH could reach beyond the walls of the university by providing virtual access to isolated individuals. The proposal was designed to bring together individuals who were unable to physically attend events whether because of age, disability, or fragility. With teammates Raquel Neris and Caitlin Cacciatore, the proposal was developed and expanded in the spring to create a website (available on the CUNY Academic Commons as “Sounds of Music,”) with information on accessibility and assistive devices. Jeremy Deliotte moderated a very successful pilot program.
The present programs blossomed from this initial teamwork. Our programs offer interactive experiences in music and communication, shared online through Zoom, for the Graduate Center community. We hope that the flexibility of the concept will accommodate many offspring of our program.
